DOUBLE-DISC EDITION OF THE 2006 STUDIO DEBUT FROM ANATHEMA’S DANIEL CARDOSO AND ULVER’S KRISTOFFER RYGG. NOW REMASTERED, INCLUDING EXTRA DISC OF DEMOS AND INSTRUMENTALS.  

Recorded between Portugal and Norway in 2005–2006, and produced and mixed by Cardoso, Murder Nature was released to great critical acclaim. It has gained the reputation of being a lost classic of sorts over the years, whilst the compositions themselves remain timeless and ageless, and often requested for a proper and extensive reissue.   This newly remastered double-disc edition now includes a special bonus disc of unreleased instrumental and demo material from the time period, along with a cover of Seal’s ‘90s hit “Kiss From a Rose”. The release also includes updated art and layout, and contains a booklet featuring a comprehensive interview delving into the beginnings, endings, and inner workings of the whole project, courtesy of writer Jonathan Rosenthal, (Invisible Oranges, Decibel, Brooklyn Vegan) plus additional words from members of other luminaries of the progressive metal scene, such as Periphery and Between the Buried and Me.   Murder Nature stands as a pinnacle of forward-thinking metal from the 2000s. For fans of Tool, A Perfect Circle, Queens of the Stone Age, and Faith No More.

Flowers of Evil est vraiment un album spécial dans lequel Ulver joue le rôle de l'illusionniste jusqu'à en être carrément fallacieux : retour de la synthpop (ça serait bien la première fois qu'Ulver reste dans une zone de confort), pochette étrange, références bibliques et culturelles à foison... Mais si on creuse un peu plus, c'est un Ulver tragique qui se dévoile, un Ulver qui parle de bombes atomiques ("Little Boy") et de massacres injustes ("Apocalypse 1993") : un Ulver plus froid et mature. Un album habité par l'esprit d'halloween, de la pochette aux références en passant par la date de sortie, et un mixage géré par Frank Hueso, plus connu sous le nom de Carpenter Brut... C'est sûr : Ulver se mettra au synthwave dans Scary Muzak ! Ça serait mal connaître la meute norvégienne que d'imaginer avoir une longueur d'avance sur elle. C'est incontestable : cette influence existe mais elle est plutôt minoritaire, Ulver la croisant avec une coldwave en tension. Simple, efficace et prenant ! Jordan Vauvert
